Study “Recruiting Trends 2012″: Internal professionalization by application management systems
Munich, 07.03.2012 – The study Recruiting Trends 2012, which is annually released by the Centre of Human Resources Information Systems (CHRIS) in collaboration with Monster Worldwide Deutschland GmbH, identifies the “internal professionalization by application management systems“ in the companies as one of the most important trends of the past ten years in the recruiting process.
Within the annual study Recruiting Trends 2012 presented by the Centre of Human Resources Information Systems (CHRIS) of the universities of Bamberg and Frankfurt in collaboration with Monster Worldwide Deutschland GmbH, the thousand largest German companies were interviewed about recruiting. 17.1 percent out of the thousand companies in Germany which had received correspondence answered the questionnaire in detail. This time, the study also includes a look back on ten years of recruiting trends.
Reduced process runtimes and costs thanks to IT support
As part of the online recruitment, the rapidly growing number of applications as well as an aggressive competitive environment caused a lot of companies to optimize their internal business processes in addition to expanding their traditionally external recruitment activities. Application management systems ensure an optimized service quality towards candidates (e. g. by faster response times) while allowing improved internal planning and networking with the departments and shorter process runtimes as well as lower process costs.
At the same time, opportunities were and are increasingly seized, taking optimization steps that are known from primary processes also in the traditional secondary process “HR” and conducting an extensive recruiting controlling or process standardizations. This active business process management and IT support of the recruiting processes has dramatically increased in the past ten years.
The Recruiting Trends 2003 stated:
- 41 % of the participants do not use dedicated recruiting software
- 7 % of the participants wish support for the recruiting processes by means of administration and workflow functionalities
- 41 % of the participants only register contact information electronically when receiving a paper application
The Recruiting Trends 2008 revealed that the recruiters clearly wish for more IT support in all tasks from employer branding via application management to the selection and that fewer than half of the responding companies are satisfied with their recruitment processes. Processes with strong IT support achieve consistently better results. Mainly process standardization is an important tool in modern business process management.
Increased transparency and quality of applicants
Hence, process standardization is a relatively new aspect of professionalizing internal processes. A standardized recruitment process without media discontinuity offers considerable advantages.
According to Recruiting Trends 2008, 78.8 percent of the large companies have at least been using some process standards in the recruitment process. 89 percent expect the recruitment process to become more efficient by process standardization. 70.5 percent expect lower costs and 69.5 percent expect a shorter time to hire. Another positive effect of process standards is more transparency in the entire recruitment process. The empirical analyses of the study show that a standardization of HR processes has a strong and significant influence on the process performance (time to hire, cost, quality). Benteler AG for example was able to reduce its time to hire from 92 to 69 days and the total cost of the recruitment process by 30 percent as well as to improve the quality of the applicant data and to increase the number of incoming online form applications.
